Jason,
For most members of Congress, the FBI raiding the home of your campaign manager would be the worst news you could get in a week.
Not Lauren Boebert. After her former manager's house was searched last week in connection with an election data leak (seriously), Boebert went on the House floor to deliver what can charitably be called an unhinged rant — accusing a colleague of "sleeping with the enemy" and making Islamophobic remarks about Rep. Ilhan Omar.
It was enough to prompt a local Colorado news anchor to air a special segment to call Boebert out for saying "cruel, false, and bigoted things" simply to get attention and rake in campaign cash. It was a brave, refreshing change of pace on local news.
That pushback matters. Stopping people like Boebert requires regular people who don't like being represented by a member of the Sedition Caucus to speak out— those are the voices we're going to be amplifying over the next year. Will you chip in right now to help defeat people like Lauren Boebert in the next election?
That local news segment was important for another reason. The anchor rightly called out fellow news outlets for lowering the bar for elected officials like Boebert, saying: "This is about us, as journalists, recognizing that we'll hold a politician accountable if they say something vile once, but we won't do it if they do it every day."
It's so important that someone finally said that aloud. Some members of the media decided during the Trump administration that cruelty was just part of a new "brand" of Republican. It's no wonder that an entire wing of the party has embraced this approach — and when you treat political opponents as actual enemies, the slope gets slippery fast. In fact, Boebert's speech was made in defense of Rep. Paul Gosar for sharing a cartoon that fantasized about committing violence against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
It's truly astounding what is happening in the Republican Party. Just imagine if they win back the majority. That's why I can't sit back and hope the good guys win. I know that the only way a democracy like ours can survive is through participation. People like us have to fight back. If you can, chip in today and let's go take the fight directly to the worst of the worst members of the Sedition Caucus in Congress.
Thank you, Amy
