Can you believe this Jason!? In a committee hearing for the House Tribal Affairs Committee just a few weeks ago, Rep. Sarah Vance made a distasteful comment after listening to an hour of testimonies in regard to the disparities of violence and sexual assault committed against indigenous Alaska women, stating: "I wonder why what I hear in this committee is that Alaska Native women feel that it is exclusive to your experience because it sounds exactly like what I have heard of white women in my community? It's the same thing." We know that Indigenous women in Alaska and across the country are disproportionately affected by higher rates of violence, and Rep. Sarah Vance's comments diminish the voices of all Alaska Native women working to raise awareness.
