In a recent CNN article, it’s been reported that at least 23 GOP lawmakers have decided not to seek reelection or resigned early, including five committee chairs. Most of them cite that their party has become too extreme or just a clown show.
Just look at what they have to say:
“Our country – and our Congress – is broken beyond most means of repair.”
“They’ve signed up to do serious things. And we’re not doing serious things.”
“When you have folks on your own team with their knives out, it makes it less enjoyable.”
“I thought that some of our members would be smarter.”
“It’s foolish. And it’s been proven to be foolish. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”
One thing is for certain: extremism tires out even those who have enabled it in the first place, and Republican dysfunction is taking its toll on the party. From MAGA extremists like Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene taking the Speaker of the House vote hostage last year to the inability to even corral their party on a vote, this is the time when their cracks are beginning to show — and we need to be ready.
