Jason — one of the most extreme anti-immigration bills in the country is set to go into law on March 5, and we need your help to stand up for migrant rights!
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has approved Senate Bill 4, which would allow the state police to arrest and detain any person they suspect of entering the country without authorization. SB4 means Texans of color are at higher risk of racial profiling and over-policing which interferes with migrants' ability to claim asylum.
When the state interferes with the job of the federal government for cheap political points, we see the dangerous impact on real people. A little over a month ago, the Texas National Guard denied access to federal border patrol agents after they received a notice that five migrants were in distress and were on their way to assist them — resulting in the preventable deaths of one woman and two children.
Extremists and Trump cronies like Greg Abbott and Ted Cruz are just as dangerous as Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, or Mike Johnson, it is a reminder of why we must also focus on state and local races, not just federal ones.
In order to pass comprehensive and humane immigration policies, we need to make sure we’re informed of who is on the ballot in 2024, from the bottom to the top.
