Here's a fact that should outrage every American: Most of the guns used by cartels don't come from secret smuggling operations — they come straight from U.S. gun dealers.
Every year, up to 500,000 American firearms are trafficked into Mexico, fueling cartel violence and making the fentanyl crisis even worse. Nearly 70% of the guns recovered at Mexican crime scenes can be traced back to the U.S.
How is this happening? Weak gun laws and massive loopholes. Unlicensed dealers and straw purchasers can stockpile weapons with little oversight—and cartels are taking full advantage.
But Congress has a chance to shut down the iron pipeline. The Stop Arming Cartels Act (H.R.923/S.367) would close loopholes, crack down on illegal sales, and give law enforcement the tools to stop gun traffickers before more lives are lost.
This should be a no-brainer. But without public pressure, there's no way this legislation will move forward. We need to speak up now — that's why we've organized a petition to support the Stop Arming Cartels Act.
