They’re trying to steal this election

Let's review the facts: Back in November, Justice Allison Riggs won re-election to her seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court. It was an extremely close race, but two recounts confirmed that she prevailed by over 700 votes. Her opponent, Jefferson Griffin, simply refused to concede — going to court to challenge over 65,000 ballots. All of those voters, including thousands of service members overseas, followed the rules on Election Day. But Republicans argued they didn't like the rules, and so the votes shouldn't count.  Now keep in mind, these Republicans don't want to invalidate those ballots in every election — just the supreme court race. And they don't want to challenge every vote cast that way across the state — just the ones that happened in four heavily Democratic counties.  Republicans in North Carolina are trying to use partisan courts to overturn the will of the people — and it's all happening out in the open.  Now, here's the infuriating part: the courts so far are going along with it. The state supreme court just ruled that thousands of voters have 15 days to "cure" their ballots. They know full well that it will be extremely hard to get all those voters to respond — and if they don't, it could easily flip the outcome of the election. Right now, this is still all playing out in the courts. Everyone expects that it'll go all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, where heaven knows what will happen. The implications are enormous. If a Republican who lost on Election Day is allowed to throw out large swaths of Democratic votes, you better believe MAGA is going to try this all over the country. Conservative courts will be asked to throw out Democratic ballots everywhere a Democrat manages to eke out a victory. This is among the scariest tests of our democracy that I can recall — and these days, that's saying something!
