| Jason, Republicans in Congress just passed the so-called "SAVE Act" – a dangerous voter suppression bill that would make it harder for people to register to vote. Alaska Rep. Nick Begich voted for this bill, even though noncitizen voting is already illegal and comes with harsh criminal penalties, including jail time and deportation. Since 2011, there has been just ONE recorded case of a non-citizen attempting to vote in our state. Let's be clear: this isn't about election integrity. It's about making it harder for thousands of eligible Alaskans to cast their ballot. In a state with a geography as vast and unique as Alaska, requiring in-person registration would be nothing short of voter suppression. There are only six election offices across the entire state, including Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Nome, Wasilla, and Kenai! This bill would require some folks to travel hours just to register to vote. Alaska Democrats are organizing across the state to fight back and ensure that every Alaskan has the opportunity to make their voice heard at the ballot box, but we need your help. Will you chip in anything you can today to help us protect voting rights for ALL eligible Alaskans? |
