I just wanted to check in. The past few weeks have been heavy. After watching ICE agents kill innocent civilians and then smear the victims, I know a lot of people are shaken. I am too.
This is not normal. And it should never be accepted as the cost of living in this country.
There is a rot in ICE that cannot be repaired under Donald Trump and Kristi Noem.
To restore public trust, ICE must be dismantled and replaced by an interior agency with more rigorous training and standards, increased oversight and accountability, and safer outcomes for all.
In the meantime, I want you to know this: I will not stand by as masked vigilantes unjustly target immigrant and refugee communities.
That's why I worked with my colleagues to introduce legislation to require ICE agents to identify themselves and abide by due process. It's why I speak out when power is abused.
And it's why I'm running for Congress. Because silence is not an option.
Please take care of yourself. Please stay safe out there. And thank you for standing with me.
