I grew up in one of the poorest ZIP codes in our Commonwealth. My mom and I sometimes went without heat in the winter or air conditioning in the summer, and she went without eating so that I could. After I was diagnosed with diabetes, we were often forced to ration my insulin just to survive.
Today, my wife and I are raising three young girls. We don't want them to continue growing up in a world where only senators and their wealthy friends can live a life of dignity. Like so many of you out there, we want a world in which we can all thrive together — whether you're from the hood or the holler.
But right now, I know there are thousands of families across the nation just like mine who are making painful sacrifices, working multiple jobs, and still can't make ends meet.
I know this firsthand, Jason. And I'm ready to take those lived experiences with me to the Senate, where I'll work tirelessly to make sure that our voices are heard.
It's time to elect someone who knows what it's like to not have enough money to feed his family.
Someone who looks at his community and asks, "How can I help?"
Someone who isn't afraid to fight for the right thing — even when it isn't politically convenient.
