Jason,
There's a lot of debate in legal circles about whether Donald Trump should be disqualified from the ballot. We now know that the Supreme Court is going to weigh in on that question.
Look, I'm no constitutional lawyer. But to those of us who've taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution, Donald Trump has repeatedly disqualified himself to hold the highest office in the land — when he cozied up to authoritarians like Putin, when he recklessly (and maybe deliberately) mishandled classified documents, and of course when he did everything in his power to try to overthrow the 2020 election results.
For last weekend's infamous anniversary, I teamed up with Ken Harbaugh, a former Navy pilot and co-producer of the documentary Against All Enemies, to publish an op-ed in The Hill on why we believe a second Trump presidency is "the most existential national security threat to our democracy in our lifetime."
If you have a minute, give it a read and pass it on to keep this debate focused on the ugly truth of who Trump is and what he stands for.
No matter what the courts say about Trump's ballot eligibility (and I'm not holding my breath), it's going to come down to everyday Americans like us to stop him from getting his hands on power again. That fight will play out in the months ahead, and I'm proud to be part of it alongside people like you.
More soon,
Amy
