Otherwise, let me tell you a bit about my decision to run for the Senate in the first place and how it relates to where we are today.
First, I wanted to mount a ruthless assault on corruption in our political system. We see the impact of that corruption everywhere from drug prices to profiteering in Congress. Corporate money corrupts the legislative process and the American people want change. It's why I introduced legislation to ban corporate PACs and to ban stock trading by members of Congress.
I was also motivated to run — and I said it at the time, years before the Dobbs decision — to fight back against the GOP's effort to roll back women's access to reproductive health care. I said when I announced my run that I saw Georgia as the front line in defense of choice and now, as some Republicans push for a national abortion ban and Georgia is under a six-week abortion ban, it still is.
I knew that if I ran, I would be relentlessly attacked by the GOP and face the inevitable partisan smears — because together, you and I, we posed a threat to entrenched GOP power in Georgia. But I had been through that fire before (during my 2017 House race) and decided not to care about the attacks and instead to focus on WINNING.
I knew that by inspiring and mobilizing volunteers to talk to voters across the state, to ensure every American had access to affordable health care, to protect our planet for future generations, and to root out the corruption in Washington, D.C., we could raise a grassroots army unlike anything Georgia had ever seen and unseat an entrenched Republican incumbent.
With your help, we shocked the nation and we WON, alongside Rev. Warnock, to secure the Senate majority in 2021.
Since my election I've been fighting for Georgia and for our Nation in the Senate, and now we are again entering a political fight to HOLD this seat we all worked so hard to win.
