Dunleavy's Final State of the State Missed the Reality Alaskans Are Living

Governor Mike Dunleavy delivered his final State of the State address this month — but for many Alaskans, it felt disconnected from the challenges families are facing every day.

"Dunleavy's final State of the State felt like it was written by someone who doesn't even live in Alaska," said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. "He ignored the tough reality that many Alaskans are facing with health care and food security in flux, school closures across the state, and struggling fisheries."

While the Governor painted a rosy picture, communities across Alaska are grappling with rising costs, shrinking access to care, and schools being forced to do more with less. And despite talking about the importance of education, Dunleavy has vetoed three separate bills in the past two years that were aimed at increasing funding for Alaska's classrooms.

Alaskans haven't forgotten those vetoes — and we won't forget who stood in the way of fully funding our schools, supporting working families, and protecting our fisheries.

This moment is a reminder of why leadership matters. Alaska deserves leaders who are grounded in the real experiences of our communities and committed to putting Alaska first — in education, in our economy, and in the future we're building together.

Meet our Communications & Deputy Executive Director, Daniella Tebib!

Daniella Tebib (she/her) was raised in rural Kentucky, where she grew up riding horses and playing in the creek. She had her political awakening when her elementary school held a mock election in 2008 for Barack Obama and John McCain, and she quickly found herself interested in the world of politics and advocacy of Democratic policies. From early childhood, she has felt a passion and calling to move our country and world in a better direction.

She has worked in Alaska since 2022, playing a key role in Mary Peltola's election to U.S. Congress, and has been involved in the ADP since then. Before joining the ADP, she co-founded a digital firm rooted in growing the digital footprint of Democrats up and down the ballot and electing them into office nationwide.

Outside of work, she loves to travel, try out new restaurants, and can often be found at the movie theatre. She is honored to now live on Dena'ina land.
