The gun lobby is trying to overturn Maine's voters

The fight for Question 2 isn't over yet.

Dear Jason, The ink is barely dry on Maine's Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPO) Law – the "Red Flag Law" that voters overwhelmingly passed in November, and the gun lobby is already trying to undermine the will of the people.   One of the leading gun lobby organizations is planning to sue the state to overturn the law that allows family and household members to petition for "extreme risk protection orders" to temporarily remove firearms from someone deemed a threat.   This is such a commonsense law that Maine voters passed it 62.9% to 37.1%.   The gun lobby doesn't like the democratic outcome of the vote, so now it's trying to use the courts to overturn us, the people of Maine. We need all of our representatives to stand up for us and publicly support the law we voted for.   The Maine Attorney General is likely going to have to fight for our ERPO in court, and we need our legislature to take a public stand to defend it. Will you write a letter to your representatives telling why the ERPO is important to you? SEND YOUR LETTER Don't forget, when a person is in crisis and may be a danger to themselves or others, people in their household are often the first to see the warning signs – and are often the first in the line of fire.   In 32% of mass shootings, the perpetrator showed warning signs ahead of time. And states with red flag laws have seen significant decreases in firearm deaths, especially suicides.   That's why in a state like Maine, where responsible gun stewardship is part of our culture, we chose to vote for an ERPO Law.   We recognize that Maine has seen a 49% increase in gun-related deaths since 2014, and it's time to act.   You were one of our strongest voices as we fought to pass Question 2 in November, and I know that you don't want to see it overturned.   We've created an easy tool to send a personalized message to your Maine representatives showing support for Question 2.
