How news should be funded is an important question that is central to the sustainability of journalism, and most Americans do not see paying for it as their responsibility.
According to new polling from the Pew Research Center, only eight percent of Americans believe that it is their responsibility to pay for news.
This is where public media should come in, but instead the Trump administration has implemented sweeping cuts that strip federal support from public media outlets like PBS and NPR.
And we’re already seeing some of the damage.

Stations have laid off reporters. Educational programs are being canceled. The future of public media is on the line, unless we step in right now.
