Young Alaskans are still leaving

We need to fix this

Dear Jason, Alaska has now experienced 13 straight years of net outmigration. That means more people are leaving our state than moving here — year after year after year. And increasingly, it's young people who are packing up and heading south. They're leaving because they're looking for something they're struggling to find here: opportunity, stability, and a future they can build. Too many young Alaskans graduate high school or college and feel like they have to leave home to find good jobs, affordable housing, or strong schools for the families they hope to raise someday. That should concern every single one of us. DONATE TODAY Alaska should be a place where our kids can grow up, build careers, raise families, and stay connected to the communities that shaped them. But for too long, politicians in Alaska have failed to invest in the things that actually keep people here — strong schools, reliable infrastructure, affordable health care, and an economy that works for working families. Instead of building a future that keeps our young people home, we're watching them leave. That's not inevitable. It's the result of political choices. If we want Alaska to thrive for the next generation, we need leaders who will focus on creating opportunity here at home — so young Alaskans don't feel like their only option is to leave.
