When I was 14, my mom, my three sisters, and I left our home in Ecuador to find a better life in America. We lived in a one room apartment. My mom worked double-shifts during the day and took classes at night to learn English. I picked up shifts at the local doughnut shop to help make ends meet.
Those years weren't easy. But thanks to my mother's relentless belief in a brighter future for her children, I went on to graduate from college, become the first South American immigrant to serve in Congress, and write the bill to expand Medicare Advantage coverage.
My story — coming from a one room apartment to walking the halls of Congress — is only possible in America. But Rick Scott has spent his time in Washington doing everything he can to destroy the country that gave my family a shot at a better life.
Rick Scott has a net worth up to nearly a quarter of a billion dollars, yet he's proposed tax increases on working families and the middle class. He's pushed for a nationwide ban on abortions. And he wrote the GOP plan to end the Social Security and Medicare benefits that so many rely on.
That's why I'm running to defeat him next November. Experts say that Rick will be one of the most vulnerable senators on the ballot — which means that if we build a powerful grassroots team full of people like you, Jason, we can take him down.
So please, I'm personally asking: Will you become a grassroots donor by splitting a gift between my campaign and Dirt Road Democrats PAC today? Every dollar gets us one step closer to defeating Rick Scott and defending our Senate majority.
