| Jason, Last week, I attended a memorial I'll never forget. When I was running the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, the president of the Women's Army Veterans Association reached out because a World War II veteran had been buried without a headstone. Staff Sergeant Essie Woods served in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—the only all-Black, all-female unit deployed overseas in World War II. She was a founding member of the Women's Army Veterans Association, but her gravesite went unmarked for years. I made it a priority to fix that. It took ten years, but this week, we finally honored her properly. Her service, her story, and her sacrifice were recognized the way they always should have been. I wanted to share that with you, not because it made headlines, but because it's the kind of work I believe in. The kind that takes time, persistence, and a deep sense of responsibility. Thanks for reading, Adam |
