Congress has already approved $5 billion in funding for our public schools. President Trump has already signed it.
But now, his administration is illegally blocking it.
Just before $5 billion in public education funding was supposed to be distributed to the states on July 1, the Trump administration quietly froze the money, putting millions of students, educators, and families at risk.
This funding is supposed to support K-12 classrooms, after-school and summer programs, English learners, migrant students, and teacher salaries in all 50 states. Without it, school districts are already bracing for layoffs, program cuts, and larger class sizes. Some have even warned that critical programs and support for our most vulnerable students may vanish altogether without this funding.
This is clear impoundment — the illegal withholding of money that Congress has already appropriated for public education.
And it's part of a larger pattern: The Trump administration is now sitting on at least $425 billion in funding meant for local communities, including this $5 billion meant for our public schools.
Our kids can't afford more learning loss. Our teachers can't afford more cuts. Our schools can't survive this kind of political stunt.
Sign on today to tell Congress to demand the immediate release of these public education funds. It's time to hold this administration accountable and stand up for the future of public education.
