| Jason, The devastating shooting that took place yesterday at the Grand Sierra Resort is heartbreaking. My deepest condolences go out to the families of the two people whose lives were taken far too soon, and I pray for the recovery of those injured both physically and emotionally, and for our entire Reno community, which is once again grappling with the pain of senseless violence. I would like to thank the first responders, GSR security personnel, and law enforcement officers who acted swiftly and courageously to stop the threat and protect others. Lives were saved today because of their service. But thoughts and prayers alone can never be enough. Our community deserves to feel safe at work, while traveling, and in our public spaces. Today's tragedy is yet another reminder that we must come together—not as Republicans, Democrats, or independents, but as citizens—and address gun violence in our communities. That means strengthening background checks, supporting mental health resources, and ensuring law enforcement has the tools it needs to keep our neighborhoods safe. Reno is a strong community. But no family should have to endure this heartbreak. We must build a future where safety is not a privilege, but a guarantee—for everyone in Reno. I will do everything I can to help make that a reality. All the best, Kate Marshall |
