| Jason, before I served in the Michigan Legislature, I was a student-athlete. I played football at Michigan State University, where I earned a degree while competing at the highest level. But I still remember the restrictions. If I had accepted a sandwich and a stick of beef jerky, my athletic scholarship would have been in jeopardy. Thankfully, that's changed. Now, student-athletes can earn compensation through their name, image, and likeness – what we call NIL – but these rights are under attack. Our students shouldn't have to choose between playing the sport they love and supporting themselves and their families. That's why I'm proud to have introduced House Bill 4643, which will fight back and help young athletes keep the money that they worked hard for, just like any other student. If you're with me, I hope you'll consider pitching in to my campaign for U.S. Senate today to help us keep fighting for all Michiganders. |
