For decades, Chevron has profited off destroying Louisiana's coastline and left communities to deal with the damage.
Now, Chevron is being sued by the state for contributing to the destruction of fragile coastal marshlands. If the state wins, Chevron could be forced to pay billions of dollars toward restoration. If Chevron wins, they get to walk away with zero consequences.
We can't let that happen.

Louisiana has lost nearly 2,000 square miles of coastal land from 1932 to 2016, and that land didn't just disappear on its own. Chevron is alleged to have dumped billions of gallons of oil and gas extraction byproduct directly into local marshes.
Instead of owning up to the damage, Chevron leadership is trying to shift the case into federal court, where it could get a more sympathetic hearing. It's a blatant attempt to game the system and avoid accountability.
We can't stress enough how high the stakes are in this case. If Chevron wins, communities across the country could lose the ability to stand up to powerful corporations accountable for environmental destruction.
Corporations shouldn't be allowed to destroy our environment and then hide behind legal maneuvers to avoid fixing what they broke.
