Our Annual Holiday Auction brought in an incredible wave of support, community spirit, and good old-fashioned Alaska generosity. Whether you bid, bought a ticket, donated an item, or simply helped spread the word, you played a part in making this one of our most successful auctions yet. Events like this remind us what's possible when Democrats across the state come together — not just to fundraise, but to build the energy and momentum we need heading into 2026. Every dollar raised goes right back into the work: organizing, training volunteers, supporting candidates, and strengthening our Party from the ground up. We're grateful to everyone who participated. It was a joyful night, and a powerful one — we couldn't have done it without you. Our food assistance system is still failing the families who need it most. New reports confirm what too many Alaskans have felt for months: less than half of food assistance applications are being processed on time. Families who should legally receive help within 30 days are instead waiting 47 days on average — and thousands are waiting three to four months or more to get the help they need to feed their families. This isn't just "administrative challenges." Years of staffing cuts under Gov. Dunleavy left the Alaska Division of Public Assistance struggling to process paperwork. This is what happens when leaders treat food assistance like an afterthought instead of a lifeline. Alaskans deserve better. Families shouldn't have to wait months for food because of political maneuvering. They deserve public assistance systems that work — staffed, funded, and functional. January at a Glance Team Spotlight Meet our Treasurer, Monica Southworth! Monica is a born and raised Alaskan who grew up in Unalaska. She comes from a family of strong union Democrats (mostly longshoremen) and currently works for NEA-Alaska as a UniServ Direct/ARPA Coordinator. She happily calls Juneau home and also volunteers for the Tongass Chapter of Trout Unlimited in between hiking and camping. Monica has an affinity for Excel and went to St. Olaf College, where she received a major in political science, an intentional minor in statistics, and an accidental minor in Middle Eastern studies.
