Over the weekend our country was once again shaken by the appalling killing of a person in Minnesota by federal agents. Our hearts are with Alex Pretti's family and friends, and the entire Minneapolis community over the loss of, by all accounts, an extraordinary human who devoted his life to helping veterans and others.
We condemn gun violence in all its forms. We join Governor Mills and other Maine leaders, as well as citizens and law enforcement leaders from Minneapolis and around the country, in condemning the lawless terror inflicted on our communities.
Let us be clear: we support and partner with Maine law enforcement in our work to make Maine a safer place. Let us also be clear that what is happening in the streets of Minneapolis is not law enforcement. It is poorly trained and reckless immigration agents terrorizing American communities.
Now this Administration seeks to visit this terror upon Maine. Over the weekend we saw countless Mainers turn out in peaceful protest, and we are proud of our state for standing up for justice. We stand in solidarity with Maine's governor, with Mainers peacefully protesting according to their 1st Amendment rights, and with the people of Minnesota and across the country who are peacefully protesting the un-American brutality we are witnessing.
