| Jason, I can't believe we're back here. Another civilian death in Minnesota at the hands of a Border Patrol agent. Alex Pretti was a beloved son and ICU nurse who cared for veterans and was, at the moment of his death, caring for a neighbor. As a mom, I cannot imagine what this family is going through, and I mourn alongside the people of Minneapolis. As a county legislator responsible to more than 10,000 Rocklanders, I demand that ICE be held to the same standard as our police departments before more people are harmed. As I write, I am taking steps to support local law enforcement and protect my constituents, both our immigrant neighbors and those who choose to peacefully protest ICE's lawless, barbaric behavior. If Mike Lawler won't lead and safeguard our communities, I will. Likewise, I join Senate Democrats' calls to withhold DHS funding until the administration agrees to comprehensive reforms to ICE operations. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem should not be sending masked, undertrained, heavily armed and wholly unaccountable ICE agents onto our streets to harm and detain American citizens, asylum seekers, and even children. And Mike Lawler certainly shouldn't be blaming ICE's victims, even calling Renee Good's death "inevitable." I call for a full, objective investigation into Alex Pretti's death involving local and state Minnesota law enforcement. The Trump administration's campaign of terror against our cities, our communities, and our neighbors must end. In solidarity, Beth Davidson |
