Jason, This week, I sent a letter to the local field office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement making something very clear: In New Mexico, no one, including federal agents, is above the law.
That means that if a federal agent detains someone in our state without a valid warrant or just cause, they will be prosecuted. Across the country, we've seen federal immigration enforcement overreach, detaining people without cause, ignoring their rights, and creating fear in their communities. That will not happen in New Mexico. I'm not going to sit by and watch anybody violate the law and turn a blind eye to it. To the contrary, we're going to hold people accountable, and that means everybody. The people of our state deserve leadership that fights to defend our civil liberties and protects every New Mexican from abuse of power. I will fight to make sure our families, our neighbors, and our communities are safe from this kind of overreach. If you believe in leadership that fights for New Mexicans, I hope I can count on your support today.
Thanks for standing with me, Sam Bregman
