Folks,
Hours ago, yet another person was murdered at the hands of federal immigration agents. 37-year-old U.S. citizen Alex Pretti, an ICU Nurse, was shot and killed in Minneapolis during a massive enforcement operation being carried out by ICE and Border Patrol. Law enforcement claims he was armed during the encounter, but community members and local officials are left with more questions than answers about how this could happen on our streets.
Just a few weeks ago, Renee Good was murdered by an ICE agent in the same city while documenting federal actions.
Local leaders, including elected officials in Minnesota and Gov. Walz, have condemned these shootings and called for federal agents to be withdrawn. The pain is raw, and the grief is real.
We are a nation that claims to value human life and to protect the rights of all who live here. And yet today, another fellow American is dead under circumstances that should never occur in a free society. This violence is a result of policy choices made by leaders in Washington who continue to bankroll an enforcement apparatus with too much power and too little oversight.
After the House passed ICE's new budget this week, the fate of their funding falls to the Senate. This means billions more of taxpayer dollars would flow to agencies that have now fatally shot multiple civilians in Minneapolis alone.
In solidarity and with urgency,
Team Forward Blue
