Let that sink in. The president is weaponizing the DOJ against me and several of my colleagues—apparently because they don't like their political opponents speaking up and stating the law.
He's already called for us to be arrested, jailed, and even hanged. Now he's sending the DOJ after us in this latest escalation of his growing intimidation campaigns against political rivals.
Jason, I first swore an oath to the Constitution as a 17-year-old at the Naval Academy. That oath is sacred, and I will honor it without hesitation. No matter what Trump says or does, no matter who he sends after me, I will not be intimidated and will not back down, but I need you with me. | Here's what happened: My colleagues and I released a video reaffirming a basic constitutional truth and the law: no service member is required to follow an illegal order.
That simple truth was enough to send Trump into a blind rage. He's tried again and again to bully me and my colleagues into backing down—because that's how he operates when he's challenged.
It won't work.
I first took my oath to the Constitution when I entered the Naval Academy at 17 at the start of my military service. I took it again when I was elected to represent the people of Western Pennsylvania in Congress. That oath is lifelong. It doesn't expire, and it doesn't bend to threats or tantrums.
And I sure as hell won't let Donald Trump—the guy who tried to overthrow our government on January 6, 2021, after LOSING an election—intimidate me or deter me from upholding my oath.
So Trump can threaten me, call for my arrest, try to incite violence against me, and even send the DOJ after me. But it won't stop me from upholding my oath and doing my job for Pennsylvanians and my fellow Americans. I've always believed that our country is worth fighting for, and I'm in this fight for the long haul.
