| Jason, It's both horrifying and ironic that Donald Trump tweeted this on Presidents' Day weekend: People attribute that quote to Napoleon, an infamous, violent despot who died in exile. But you could just as easily hear it coming out of the mouth of any other tinpot dictator of the last century. But it hits different when it's happening here — when it's the president of the United States looking himself in the mirror and putting on the makeup of an authoritarian. He so desperately wants to be seen as king-like. (The White House even posted a picture of him wearing a crown this week.) Of course, his actions speak just as loudly. He and his team are actively trying to snuff out checks and balances, dismantling the federal government to consolidate power for him and his billionaire buddies to play with. I'm not going to spin it. That's the unvarnished truth about our current reality. That doesn't change this fact: Americans are famous for not being keen on monarchs. It's kind of our thing. (Maybe that's part of why his approval rating is dropping fast.) I've instructed my team to build up our grassroots organization for the fights ahead, because I'm watching this and starting to see the cracks in their false bravado. You can chip in here to help if you'd like. Strongmen love to tell you they're strong. It's a fantasy they need us to believe. Amy
