SB 1283 and SB 3514 would make irresponsible exemptions to the laws determining what a firearm is.
Under the bills, tasers, firearms that can shoot rubber bullets or beanbags, and ghost guns that don't use metal bullets would no longer be serialized – which means they're untraceable.
And people prohibited from buying traditional firearms, including felons, gun traffickers, and domestic abusers, would be free to purchase these dangerous weapons.
The sponsors of this bill say it is to protect law enforcement, but law enforcement is never once mentioned in either of the bills!
And let's be clear, these bills are both incredibly dangerous.
Just one look at the supporters of the bills – the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and the National Association for Gun Rights – tells you what they really are: an underhanded way to line their pockets by undermining gun safety legislation for the entire nation.
We can't let these life-threatening bills pass the Senate.
Can you write a letter to your senators today telling them to reject SB 1283 and SB 3514?
Together, we can keep all communities safe.
With resolve,
Nacole Palmer, Executive Director
Maine Gun Safety Coalition
