Donald Trump’s trade war drove up the cost of groceries, cars, clothes, and everyday essentials. Economists estimate the average household paid about $1,000 more in 2025 alone because of his tariffs.
Now the Supreme Court has ruled those tariffs illegal. The statute he relied on does not give a president the authority to impose them. Period.
Corporations are already moving to recover what they paid. But families are the ones who absorb those higher prices at the checkout counter.
The Payback Act would require the Treasury to calculate refunds and send checks directly to we the people. If companies can be reimbursed, working families should be, too.
