This project, called the Rio Grande LNG, combined with the proposed Texas LNG and the planned Rio Bravo Pipeline, will have far-reaching and devastating impacts surrounding areas. The local environment and wildlife, the health of people in nearby communities, and Indigenous rights are all at risk. And let's be clear — though the 'N' in LNG stands for natural, there's nothing "natural" about the expansion of methane gas use. Methane gas actually has 80 times more warming power than carbon dioxide over the first 20 years after it reaches the atmosphere. Methane gas is highly explosive, so this increase in pipelines close to residential & commercial areas could be incredibly dangerous. Join us and sign our petition to the insurers of this project: Drop Rio Grande LNG before the insurance renewal in March 2024. What's more, the people indigenous to the land where the terminal will be built, the Carrizo/Comecrudo Tribe of Texas, have not given their Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) for Rio Grande LNG. They've highlighted the continued environmental racism in the Gulf that's displaced and polluted too many communities. Nearby communities have resisted this project for years, but still, Rio Grande LNG is set to move forward. Insurance companies supporting this project like Chubb, Liberty Mutual, and Sompo must listen to local Indigenous and impacted communities. We need to protect our people and our planet.
