Jason,
Some are calling Donald Trump's Iowa performance a "landslide" demonstrating the devotion of his base. Others think it's a big deal that nearly half of Republican caucus goers did not support him, signaling weakness among the broader GOP coalition.
I don't put too much stock in either explanation. What Iowa tells me is that Donald Trump is almost certainly going to be the nominee, and the voters who will decide this election haven't been heard from yet.
I call them pro-democracy voters — folks who typically vote on national security or veterans issues but are growingly alarmed at the attacks against our Constitution at home. The data is clear: No Republican can win without them.
Right now, Donald Trump is doing everything he can to turn these voters off — from claiming he plans to be a dictator on Day One to promising "retribution" against his political opponents to stealing turns of phrase from World War II-era fascists. Oh, and most of them haven't gotten over his attempt to overturn the 2020 election.
These voters feel it in their bones that democracy itself is at stake in 2024. If we do our jobs to mobilize them, we will defeat Trumpism at the ballot box again — this time, for good.
Operation Saving Democracy has a plan to reach pro-democracy voters in key battleground states with data-driven messages delivered by messengers we know will be effective. I need to ask for your support to fund this work, because it has the power to swing the outcome of this election — will you chip in today?
Thank you for driving this mission forward — the general election will be here before you know it.
Amy
