The Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais destroyed what remained of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. And now, MAGA is using that moment and has set its sights on a new target: our district.
Their goal is to erase TN-09 as a majority-Black district because they know we’re standing in the way of their authoritarian plans. And they’re saying it as plain as day.
Senator Marsha Blackburn, who is running to be our state’s next Governor joined the call last week to redraw Tennessee’s congressional maps in order eliminate the state’s one remaining Democratic seat.
Jason, anyone who is calling for the elimination of other People’s right to representation — for the right of communities to choose their own leaders — should not be in anywhere near power. Not as governor. Not as a senator.
But our district is just one part of a much larger plan. Across the country, the GOP has been laser-focused on making it harder for more People to participate in our democracy. Because they know People are fed up and that without tilting the scales in their favor, they’d lose power.
That’s why we’re building a grassroots Movement strong enough to take them on — not only to save our democracy, but to win the future that our People and neighborhoods deserve.
