This isn't just about a budget—it's about survival. This past legislative session showed us just how thin the line is between progress and disaster.
We came dangerously close to seeing our 72-hour waiting period law overturned. We held the line this time, but we cannot keep living one vote away from tragedy.
We've also seen the Trump administration's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives roll back decades of gun safety legislation, making the fight for Maine protections even more urgent.
To move Maine forward, we have to stop playing defense. Our primary goal for 2026 is to elect a new wave of Gun Safety Champions who won’t hesitate to protect our families and who will finally have the courage to pass a secure storage law to keep our children safe from guns in their own homes.
If we don’t meet our fundraising targets, we'll have to cut back on our work mobilizing our network to counter the gun lobby’s deep-pocketed disinformation campaigns. We won't be able to support volunteers or use resources to educate Maine voters on which candidates will actually vote for safety, not the gun lobby.
The gun lobby is banking on us being too tired or too broke to fight back. They want us to stay behind. We cannot afford to let that happen.
We're making important decisions right now about what our campaigns will look like. If you've been waiting to donate, now is the time.
Please, if you are in a position to help, donate now. We need you to step up so we can keep showing up for Maine and the future of gun safety legislation.
Thank you for everything you've done. Thank you for what you'll do next.
With resolve,
Nacole Palmer, Executive Director
Maine Gun Safety Coalition
