Friend, I wanted to make sure you saw what I said on CNN and MSNOW: We just witnessed a devastating blow to American democracy. |
Donald Trump’s Supreme Court has gutted the Voting Rights Act. The protections that Dr. King marched for. The protections made possible by civil rights protestors who spilled blood in pursuit of a more perfect union. |
They are dragging us back to the dark and ugly days of Jim Crow. |
Trump and his allies are doing everything in their power to squeeze the voices of the people out of our democracy – raiding election centers here in Georgia, threatening to deploy ICE to polling places, and attacking your ability to vote by mail. |
These are the folks who have taken your money through Trump’s tariffs. These are the folks who have taken your doctors and your healthcare. And now they’re trying to take your voice – all so that you won’t be able to hold them accountable at the ballot box. |
In the wake of this massive assault on our democracy, we cannot remain silent. The answer to those who are trying to take your voice is to raise your voice louder than ever before. We need to send a clear message that our democracy does not belong to politicians who are trying to pick their voters. It belongs to the people. |
