Jason,
Donald Trump is absolutely coasting through the Republican primary, winning South Carolina over the weekend with 60% of the vote. For the third straight cycle, he will be their nominee for president of the United States.
But I want to call your attention to a few numbers that tell a different story:
Those are the percentages of the Republican voters that did NOT vote for Donald Trump in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, respectively. In fact, exit poll data this weekend shows how much trouble Trump is in: A whopping 21% of Republican voters said they will not support him in a general election.
These numbers reflect what we're seeing in our research — that a growing number of independents and "traditional" Republicans are greatly turned off by a candidate who is cozy with Putin, who is still lying about the 2020 election, and who promises to be a "dictator on Day One" if he's elected.
Trump can't lose anywhere close to one-fifth of his base if he has any chance of winning in November. Our assignment is clear: reach pro-democracy voters in key battleground states and make sure they reject Trump this fall.
That must start with reaching our February budget goal, and we're currently about $27,000 shy with a few days to go — make a donation today, and let's do everything we can to save our democracy from Trump.
Thanks — more soon,
Amy
