On August 14, 1935, the Social Security Act was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt to provide needed assistance to seniors and working families struggling to make ends meet.
Nearly 30 years later, on July 30, 1965 President Lyndon Johnson signed a law leading to the creation of Medicare and Medicaid, expanding benefits to millions of Americans.
Americans have paid into and relied on these programs for decades, and you would think they would receive bipartisan support, but Republicans have been trying to slash these programs since their inception. Now, with Republicans in full control of the federal government, they might finally get what they want.
79% of Americans believe that these benefits should not be cut or reduced in any way.
So why do Republicans want to cut it anyways? Because they will go to any length to cut taxes on the wealthy and enrich their billionaire friends, even at the expense of working Americans.
Thank you,
Forward Blue
