Twenty-five years

Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

I still remember exactly where I was that morning, and I know so many of you do too. New Jersey lost nearly 700 neighbors that day. In the years since, we've lost many more first responders and survivors to illnesses tied to their time at Ground Zero.

Every year on this day, I think about the way this country came together in the aftermath. Neighbors helping neighbors, strangers lining up for hours to give blood, and firefighters and police officers running toward danger without a second thought. It was one of the worst days in our history, and also one that showed who we are at our best.

I think about the families who are still grieving, a quarter-century later. I think about the survivors who live with the physical and emotional weight of that day every single time they wake up. And I think about how important it is that we never let this country forget what happened, or the people we lost.

Today, I'm simply asking you to take a moment, wherever you are, to remember them.
