Jason, The Alaska Senate passed a bill to revive the pension program for state employees 18 years after the Alaska legislature voted to scrap the state pension program in 2006, leaving state employees –including our teachers– without a reliable retirement program.
But just a few weeks ago, Gov. Mike Dunleavy said, "We can't be the make-a-wish foundation" when discussing the pension plan bill in a press conference, leaving the future of the bill in limbo. Jason, this is outrageous! Our teachers and state employees deserve access to a reliable retirement program that gives them the security they need for all the work they do to help educate our students and move our great state forward. At a time when Alaska's public schools are facing a major funding crisis and struggling to recruit and retain teachers, we must do everything we can to support our public schools now more than ever. Gov. Dunleavy and his allies in the Alaska legislature are out of touch with the needs of hard-working Alaskans, and we're working to make sure they don't get a veto-proof supermajority in November to enable their extreme agenda – but we need your help! Can we count on you to chip in $5 right now to help us elect Democrats across the state who will fight back against Republican extremism and support Alaska's teachers and state employees?
Thank you, Alaska Democratic Party
