I can't believe this is even in question, Jason.
It's a long-standing tradition that, once they win the nomination, challengers for the presidency are given classified intelligence briefings.
The problem this year, of course, is that candidate is currently charged with felonies related to stealing classified documents, hiding them from federal investigators, chatting about military secrets in front of Mar-a-Lago guests, and constantly lying about all of it.
Someone with that background probably wouldn't get let through the gate at Fort Campbell, much less given a clearance. Why on God's green Earth would he get access to some of the nation's most important national security intelligence?!
I hope the administration will find a way to handle this with the caution it demands (at least until Trump's criminal charges are resolved). But the very fact that this is a controversy is a nightmare scenario for those of us who spent our careers in national security. We know the importance of taking classification seriously — we know that even the slightest slip can put Americans at home and our trusted partners abroad in harm's way.
And the thing is: Even if you presume that Trump's actions were simply careless, they're still disqualifying.
What gives me hope is that there are a lot of voters out there who care about this — and Donald Trump needs their votes. Our data shows that if we do our jobs, he won't get them.
I need your help before Sunday's FEC deadline. We're still 141 donations away from our grassroots goal — if you can, make a donation of any amount right now and help make sure we can fund the work of reaching pro-democracy voters in battleground states.
The data shows our plan will work, if we have the funds to execute it. Thank you for helping make this possible.
Amy
