Jason,

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — a son of Georgia whose moral leadership helped move our country closer to its founding promise of justice and opportunity for all.

Dr. King understood that inequality is not abstract — it costs lives. He warned that "of all forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane," a truth that still resonates today. Decades later, we're still fighting to ensure everyone has affordable, accessible care.

His legacy reminds us that racial justice and economic justice are deeply connected. A just society is one where everyone can vote without barriers, earn a dignified wage, and live with freedom and security — regardless of race, income, or zip code.

And at a time when our democracy is under real threat, Dr. King's call to action could not be clearer.

Honoring his legacy means continuing the fight — for healthcare access, for fair elections, and for a democracy that truly works for everyone. So today, I ask that you join me in recommitting to the fight and building the community Dr. King envisioned: A nation rooted in justice, equality, and opportunity for all.

Thank you,

Congresswoman Nikema Williams
Georgia's Fighting Fifth
