| Jason, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that "whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." In other words, we're in this together. Today, our country is incredibly divided and we know that our politicians prefer to adopt tactics that tear us apart rather than bring us together. However, it doesn't need to be this way. We need leaders who will show us that we have more in common than what divides us, that we can coexist with differing opinions and perspectives and still find common ground. Imagine when willing and open minds come together and we focus on what works for the common good, we can find solutions that work for everyone. I truly believe the solutions Americans are desperate for are not found on the right or the left, but they're found in the middle. Will you meet me in the middle? We can implement policies that will make food, healthcare and housing more affordable, provide a quality education for everyone, make our communities safe and ensure every human life is treated with dignity and respect regardless of their nationality or the color of their skin. We deserve to live a life without fear, to have equal access to opportunity, to be protected by our justice system and to be rewarded for hard work. This is what makes America great: the values and principles on which we were founded that live in the hearts of the people. It's the responsibility of our leaders to lead, unify and protect the Promise of America. On this day when we remember the courage and vision of Dr. King, let's unite and demonstrate that we are one nation and that we are better together. Thank you, Lisa |
