Pete Hegseth is abusing his power to punish Senator Mark Kelly, a decorated Navy combat veteran and former astronaut, simply for speaking the truth.
Hegseth has announced plans to formally censure Mark Kelly, demote him in retirement, and slash his military pension, all because Kelly participated in a video reminding service members of a basic principle: they have a duty to refuse unlawful orders and defend the Constitution.
That’s not radical. That’s the oath every service member takes.
This is blatant political retaliation, and it sets a terrifying precedent. If Hegseth can weaponize the Pentagon to silence a sitting U.S. senator today, who’s next tomorrow?
This is about more than one senator. It’s about stopping an administration that is trying to intimidate critics, rewrite the meaning of loyalty, and punish anyone who refuses to fall in line.
Mark Kelly served this country honorably — in uniform, in space, and in the U.S. Senate. We won’t stay silent while extremists try to smear him and dismantle democratic norms.
