The gun lobby is at it again, and this time they’re taking aim at Maine’s 72-hour waiting period law.
We are actively fighting back against this effort. The gun lobby is trying to overturn the 72-hour waiting period in the courts and in the legislature. MGSC is fighting back on both to protect our state, and we are prepared to launch an organizing and advocacy campaign to keep this life-saving law in our state.

There's a reason why 72-hour waiting period laws are commonly referred to as 'cooling off periods' – because in a situation where someone is trying to buy a gun urgently, they probably need help from either law enforcement or a mental health care provider. In fact, in the last few months alone our waiting period law helped prevent two potential suicides, according to reports from the state Department of Public Safety.
The gun lobby has had some victories as of late – with a court in Texas ruling to deregulate silencers and ghost guns a couple weeks ago.
They have momentum – and they definitely have the support of Trump’s federal government – but we refuse to sit back or roll over as they make our communities less safe in the pursuit of profits.
