Red to Blue, thanks to you

It’s official – the path back to national sanity runs through our district, Virginia's Fighting Fifth!

That’s right, the DCCC has just elevated our race to the coveted Red to Blue status, given to the highest tier of pick-up opportunities needed to reclaim a Democratic majority.

This has been a huge week of momentum, starting with a new poll that shows our months of barnstorming the district have paid off – we have pulled even with Rep. John McGuire in a district he won by 15 points less than two years ago. Better yet, when voters hear about his record, we pull away by ten points. That’s what happens when he sells out our communities to protect his 100% rating from the corporate lobbyists in DC.

So: what does being a Red to Blue race mean?

For one, it proves that the progress we keep telling you about – the progress that you have helped us build through grassroots, people-powered organizing – really works. And now, it has been recognized and rewarded.

The DCCC’s Red to Blue program is a highly competitive group of top-tier races across the country. Getting added to this list sends a big signal that this is the place to invest your time, talent, and treasure, if you want to reclaim our country from the kleptocrat-in-chief.

The path back to sanity runs through the Virginia Fifth and the defeat of John McGuire. He was part of January 6th, has been enriching himself day trading stocks, and is so extreme that he opposes a right to contraception. He has been AWOL from the district, while voting to shutter rural health clinics and labor and delivery units. He got caught insider trading stocks in companies impacted by his party’s work in Congress.

This news shows that a campaign like ours – one that rejects money from lobbyists and focuses on grassroots energy – can get the resources we need to flip this seat.

I’m proud that our grassroots campaign has already defied the odds. But being a Red to Blue race isn’t all sunshine and puppies – it also means that the Republicans’ dark money juggernaut will be unleashing on us soon. Big time.

They see the same numbers we see, and the dark money groups know that one of their most reliable yes men, John McGuire, is in trouble. BIG trouble. The President can’t save him, because the voters here have turned on Trump. Every one of those "endorsed by Trump” posters McGuire has planted around the district is just driving his numbers down further.

All that’s left is McGuire’s undying loyalty to his dark money donors. He sold out our communities for them, and they are going to spend a lot to protect him.
